Description:

Our choice of toy is different in the common sense of a toy, with the use of dildos, an adult toy. We wanted to playfully poke fun at the idea of a toy by changing the function of the dildo and lift the taboo concerning sex and sex toys, placing back child-like naivety and innocence to an otherwise mature invention. The use of a smooth phallic object rather than the standard penis shaped dildo was to help this concept, as the penis is too obvious and too associated with the act of sex.

We created a playful environment where the viewer can interact with the toy, picking their desired stereotypical lover, with a choice between a Western Cowboy, British Gentleman and a Passionate Latino through the use of an inviting display. Once the dildo is picked up the seductive voice starts cooing at the viewer. The juxtaposition of the voice of the different characters, their cheesy over-romantic lines, recognizable voices, and the fact that they are being emitted from a phallic object results in a humorous and playful atmosphere.

A tribute to the Rabbits who have died at the hand of incompetent magicians

Marie Wong and Kevin Truong

Description:

This piece is inspired by Arthur Ganson’s work called “Margot’s Cat”. We were very interested in the random motion that the doll house chair interacted with the toy cat; there was a definite elegance to it. We wanted to address ideas of animal cruelty, behind the elegance of entertainment. By replicating the random motion of the machine, we were able to create the juxtaposition of the gentle swinging of the machine in operation with the imagery; the coffin as well as the found object. Rabbits were often used and are still being used in a magicians practice but often died at the hands of those who were incompetent and neglectful. Rabbits which were pulled up by their ears often died of shock or injury because holding them up by the ears hurts them. The gracefulness of the machine represents the trickery and skill of the magic however, what you see is the coffin of a rabbit bouncing off another rabbit, representing the neglect and ignorance of how animal cruelty is continuously occurring.
